What to give to the dog against the ticks?

Perhaps all owners of dogs and cats with the advent of spring solve how to protect their pets from attacking ticks and fleas. There is new option in the protection against external parasites of dogs -  flavored chewing tablets. There are several types of these tablets - SIMPARICA or NEXGARD with one month of action and BRAVECTO with three months of action. These tablets act systemically, that is, after administration, the active substance is absorbed immediately into the body and, in contact with the tissue fluid, the dog's parasites die. There are frequently asked questions about safety and side effects. The two preparations have been carefully tested for several years with high safety results. They are registered even for pregnant bitches! They have been successfully used in the US for several years without reporting any serious side effects.

Another alternative is dog collars. At our clinic we recommend a highly efficient FORESTO collar with an effect of up to 8 months. The disadvantage of using a collar may be its possible loss and also an aesthetic aspect (not everyone likes an antiparasitic collar on his pet for 8 months).

The latest, most traditional application is SPOT-ON (drops) on the animal's skin. More expensive preparations are effective, however, for all spot-ons, they work only for one month. After administration, the dog is not allowed to lick for several hours in a given place and should not bathe or soak for a few days. Cheaper fipronil preparations have not worked much lately. All of these arguments speak rather against the use of spot-ons in preventive protection against ticks and fleas.

And what is the situation with cat food preparations?
  • Brand new BRAVECTO spot-on is available also for cats. Efficacy is high and lasts for three months as well as in dogs.
  • Furthermore, COMFORTIS tablets are registered for cats. These tablets are very effective and safe, but they only work against fleas one month. However, it is highly recommended to  administer them to frightened cats where other preparations are poorly functioning.
  • The novelty in antiparasitic preparations for cats is spot-on BROADLINE. It is a highly effective and safe product in the protection against both external and internal parasites. By doing so, we will kill two flies with one shot.
ALL MENTIONED PREPARATIONS ARE AVAILABLE TO OUR CLIENTS FOR REASONABLE PRICES!

And one warning at the end – DO NOT USE DOG PREPARATION ON CATS! All preparations containing permethrin are poisonous to cats!
